This series gathers the piano sheet music for Clara Schumann’s Four Polonaises, Op. 1: four dances for piano solo, composed around 1828–1830 and published in 1831 as the young Clara Wieck’s Opus 1 (original title: Quatre Polonaises).
It includes the individual editions
Polonaise No. 1 in E-flat major · Polonaise No. 2 in C major · Polonaise No. 3 in D major · Polonaise No. 4 in C major
as well as the complete edition of all four pieces.
The polonaises are in 3/4 time, use the traditional polonaise form with trio, and combine dance rhythm with early Romantic melody. Even as a first published work they show clarity, elegance and pianistic flair. Suitable for intermediate players – for practice, teaching and performance.
