Green-Clad Hills

The 1566 madrigal “Vestiva i colli” from Palestrina’s fifth book appears here in a chamber trio arrangement following the model of Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde (1638). The violin presents the bright, singing soprano line with clear lightness, the violoncello weaves alto and tenor in warm, resonant timbre—sometimes octaved, sometimes alternating to keep the polyphonic imitations alive. The harpsichord supplies a restrained basso continuo foundation. Thus Green-Clad Hills emerges: an intimate miniature where Palestrina’s contrapuntal mastery meets the early Baroque sound world—a melancholic walk through verdant hills, carried by Renaissance clarity and Baroque warmth.
