This series presents Schubert’s six Moments musicaux as separate, edited editions for solo piano. Published in 1828 (originally as Momens musicals), the set sits beside the Impromptus among his best-known piano works: Romantic character pieces, compact, without concert-virtuoso demands.
The best-known piece of the set is Moment musical No. 3 in F minor (Allegro moderato), also known as Air russe. No. 6 first appeared as Plaintes d’un troubadour.
The works
- No. 1 — C major, 3/4, Moderato

For teaching, recitals and study. Mostly intermediate; No. 3 is the most approachable, No. 5 the most driven. The six pieces are issued here as single editions — to practise and teach one piece at a time.
