Nocturne in E minor, Op. 72 No. 1

Nocturne in E minor, Op. 72 No. 1 by Frédéric Chopin is an intimate early masterpiece, composed around 1827 and published posthumously. In its calm Andante, a singing melody unfolds over a continuously flowing accompaniment, creating a nocturnal atmosphere of quiet melancholy that gradually brightens toward a serene close in E major.

This arrangement for string orchestra preserves the essential character of the original piano work: the long-breathed cantabile line, the gently undulating triplet figures, and the expressive intensification toward the radiant major-key ending.

Technically well-balanced and with clearly structured parts, the edition is particularly suitable for advanced youth and amateur orchestras as well as ambitious student ensembles. The first violin part carries much of the melodic responsibility and is expressive rather than purely virtuosic.
